Program Definition:

This program is in essence Phase One of the larger Bi-County initiative for unification of the four local soccer clubs and mission to meet John Hackworth's vision for our local communities.  A 'core' age group team was jointly selected by leaders and representatives of the four major soccer clubs to compete in the Club Directors League (CDL) for the 2008 - 2009 season.  To maintain neutrality and objective identity, the coalition for this program, led by the efforts of John Hackworth, applied for and was granted, 2008 participation rights from CDL to play under the FC Sarasota name.

Disclaimer:

To promote community unity in the pursuit of John Hackworth's youth development mission and local entry into the CDL Soccer League for 2008-2009 season, FC Sarasota gave permission to use its name sake to the CDL and Super Y League team programs.  This was, and remains, a good faith effort to help continue a local dialogue among strategic soccer leaders for the benefit of future youth soccer players and parents.  FC Sarasota and its associated coaches, leaders and advisory board are not accountable for the specific operations related non-academy CDL or Super Y League teams.  Please direct inquiries to the respective club team entered in the CDL and/or Super Y League.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q1 - Will club teams still compete in other sanctioned leagues such as USA?  What if an age group in one league is stronger than the existing CDL league age group?

A1 - Yes, club teams will also continue to participate in other competitive leagues as deemed appropriate to their level of skill and competition needed for development (i.e., perhaps one age group has a stronger level of competition in USA league vs. CDL, or FSL may offer the best fit for team 'x'..., flexibility is the key).  Specific age group teams may also be appropriate to 'play-up' in a division and/or arrange semi-structured friendlies with comparable teams throughout the state.

Q2 - What arrangement has the club leaders selected to address where the core CDL players are registered?

A2 - Players selected for the core CDL team will be rostered and registered through the club who is identified as the core team representative (see above list).  Clubs will pursue reciprocity in revenue sharing and/or cost covering to equal out any financial needs.

Q3 - Where will the CDL core teams practice?

A3 - Clubs will work together to schedule practice locations along the I-75 corridor at their available field locations.  While not a guarantee, all efforts will be focused on the most logical site for each team.

Q4 - Why was the decision to play as a collective in CDL under FC Sarasota?

A4 - Due to the timing of this opportunity there was not consensus among the area club leaders to select any single 'existing club' name for phase one.  The use of the concept name FC Sarasota was one of convenience for this first year as the brand name is already associated with 'shared club' involvement as a participant in the Summer Super Y League program.  The final 'unification' name may or may not be representative of today's name.  This will be on of many topics for the shared advisory board to discuss and address.

Q5 - How were the coaches selected for these CDL teams?

A5 - Again, due to timing of existing club procedures such a coach selection, the club Presidents and DOC's elected to maintain their current coach selection and assignment process for phase one (i.e., for the CDL core teams) vs. having Keith Fulk appoint a neutral coach to begin the centralization of player development model.  This process would take place in phase two after the player development team (e.g., Keith Fulk and club DOC's) have an opportunity to work together in phase one.
