A
Development Initiative for the Premier Soccer Athlete:
Initial
efforts in 2007 focused are soccer club leaders in the greater Manatee and
Sarasota counties to serve the development needs of our top youth soccer
players. Early discussions and objectives included the valid pursuit to keep
club identities intact, but allow for interested top soccer athletes in various
age groups to train and play together, while representing our communities and
compete against the top players in other parts of the state and regional United
States. We applied for and was granted acceptance to compete in the
USL Super
Y League as a fit to
our goals
and objectives for player development and competition. This by default would open up new opportunities for these players while
complementing their home club affiliation. Current outreach initiatives have
identified players who have club affiliations within the following counties:
Disclaimer:
To promote community unity in the pursuit of John Hackworth's youth
development mission and local entry into the CDL Soccer League for 2008-2009
season, FC Sarasota gave permission to use its name sake to the CDL and Super Y
League team programs. This was, and remains, a good faith effort to help
continue a local dialogue among strategic soccer leaders for the benefit of
future youth soccer players and parents. FC Sarasota and its associated
coaches, leaders and advisory board are not accountable for the specific
operations related non-academy CDL or Super Y League teams. Please direct
inquiries to the respective club team entered in the CDL and/or Super Y League.
What age
group teams will make up FC Sarasota (Super Y League) in 2008?
The 2008
entry for our FC Sarasota coalition includes the following age groups

What is
the Super Y League?
In 2007
the Y-League included a select group of only 84 youth soccer clubs from the US
and Canada organized into eight divisions across North America. The league
contains many of the youth academies of USL First Division, USL Second Division,
Premier Development League, W-League, and Major League Soccer clubs, as well as
many of the established premier youth clubs in the country. The current year’s
local coalition (e.g., FC Sarasota) will compete in the league’s
Southeast Division of the Southern Conference with 11 other clubs from central
and south Florida.
The Super Y League season begins in early April and continues through the end of
August, with several periods of breaks to allow for vacations and other
commitments. The game dates do not conflict with FYSA State Cup. The teams will
play each other home-and-away for a total of 8 – 16 matches (depending on the
age group) for the respective season.
Why play
for a Super Y team?
Team
rosters can include up to 26 players, with 18 dressing for each game. This
approach allows for player absences during summer vacations. A player that is
registered to a local club (i.e., BRSC, MAYSO, Suncoast, SUSL, etc.) can
continue to play with his or her USYSA team while playing with Sarasota FC club
in the Super Y-League and is not required to fill out a player release form.
The USL Super Y-League is a professionalized system that is the first step for
developing elite youth soccer players in North America. Affiliated with US
Soccer and partnered with US Club Soccer, the league is designed for talented
youth players destined for professional or international careers. The league
contains the youth academies of USL First Division, USL Second Division, Premier
Development League, W-League, and Major League Soccer clubs, as well as many of
the established premier youth clubs. Through Olympic Development Program status
events such as the North American Finals and National ODP Camps, the nation’s
top players are identified for selection to US National Team Programs. The 2007
season features over 800 teams within the U13 – U17 boys and girls age groups
competing within 10 geographic divisions of the U.S. and Canada.
FC
Sarasota
is affiliated with US Club Soccer which allows for team entry into select
tournaments without jeopardizing player eligibility with their respective FYSA
club status.
Player
Registration fees:
Given
this is our second year for entry into this league we are striving to keep the
player fees to a minimum yet meet the operational needs of the coalition. Player
registration fees will vary since all age groups do not play the same number of
games and referee fees are different for each age group. Currently, our
organizational committee is promoting an average player fee / cost of around
$300.00 (inclusive of league fee, ref fees, team bond, insurance, etc.). Players
are responsible for hotel/ meals for away games. We will promote car pooling
among the age group teams to maximize camaraderie and limit expenses.
Please
Note:
Tournament fees are excluded from the registration fee and are the
responsibility of the players and team.
Team
Tryout and Registration Information:
Team
tryouts and registration for the 2008 Super Y-League will be held in the month
of March (please check coalition website for specific dates, times and
locations). Selected players will need to bring a photo and a copy of their
birth certificate.
